Eva Harlou* has designed the new wine accessories for Rosendahl Design Group. The “wineball” is an iconic design object that contains four pieces – both corkscrew, winestopper, foil cutter and bottle opener. The wineball is beautiful, it’s nice to touch and it’s fun to play with. The wineball is the perfect gift and a decorative piece that looks good on a beautiful set dinner table.

Om vinkuglen, fortæller Eva Harlou:

“Jeg elsker, når et helt enkelt greb løser alle udfordringer i en opgave. Kuglen er netop et eksempel på dette.
Jeg ville gerne lave et vinsæt, som kunne blive en naturlig, moderne efterfølger til Rosendahls velkendte vinsæt fra 1990’erne med de klare geometriske former, stål og sort gummi. Jeg ønskede samtidigt, at det nye vinsæt skulle fremvise sit helt eget, unikke design.
Det var også målet, at lave et produkt, som bidrager æstetisk til borddækningen, og som man har lyst til at have liggende fremme – i princippet over alt i boligen.
Et vinsæt, hvor delene – proptrækker, folieskærer og vinprop – er nemme at have styr på.
Et aktivt produkt, som ud over at være funktionelt, af god kvalitet og smukt, indbyder til snak og er noget, som man får lyst til at tage i hånden.
Desuden ønskede jeg at lave et produkt, som kunne bliver en del af en serie – for skønhedens skyld, når man indretter sig, og fordi det er så dejligt at have noget at samle på og ønske sig.
Vinkuglen blev det naturlige svar på alle disse ønsker.
Kuglen er sådan en fuldendt form, som er rar at kigge på, og som er rar at røre ved. Den udstråler ro – og så rummer den alle de her overraskelser, når man åbner den. Det kan jeg virkelig godt lide.
Selvom kuglen ser enkel ud, har det krævet et stort udviklingsarbejde for at få enkeltdelene til at fungere sammen og hver for sig. Det har været en utroligt spændende, og jeg glæder mig meget til at følge kuglen ud i folks hjem og ud i verden.
Vin-kuglen er praktisk og nem at forstå, og så pirrer den samtidigt vores fantasi og lyst til leg.”

The solar energy lamp is a multifunctional and social design for urban environments. The leaves of the flower have solar panels and can be turned towards the best sun position. The lamp produces its own energy and becomes a street light at night. The solar energy is also used to recharge electronic devices such as cell phones and laptops. The root structures serve as benches. Day and night people meet by the energy flower to relax and to recharge their electronic devices. In this way the non-social activity such as speaking on the phone is turned into a social act. People who recharge their cell phones by the energy flower show other citizens that they care about the environment.The solar energy lamp proves that sustainable and high-tech design can be beautiful. The flower as a motive stands in contrast to the urban environment and symbolizes something peaceful and poetic.

This solar energy lamp proves that sustainable and high-tech design can also be very poetic and beautiful. The inspiration for this lamp was the famous Flora Danica flower engravings. The vast Danish botanical work Flora Danica, begun in 1761, consists of 3,240 engravings in folio of all the wild plants that grew in the kingdom of Denmark. My design is a modern interpretation of the dandelion flower. The leaves of the lamp have solar panels and can be turned towards the best sun position. The lamp produces its own energy and lights up at night. The simple shape of the lamp and the white look gives the lamp a light and poetic appearance.  Eva Harlou* is very much into sustainable design and buildings and we see it as our great responsibility to show that high-tech solutions and green design can be beautiful.

Eva Harlou* makes proposal for the new Natural History Museum in Copenhagen, Denmark.
“…Forslaget tager udgangspunkt i visionen om at forene ”Opmærksomhed, tilgængelighed, totaloplevelse og integreret energidesign” i det nye Statens Naturhistoriske Museum.   Statens Naturhistoriske Museum med dets placering i Botanisk Have skal være nemt at få øje på. I hele områdets periferi kan smukke blomsterlignende lamper ses fra den omgivende by, og nyt byggeri står som ikoner for museet og tiltrækker opmærksomhed.   Det er visionen, at museet skal række sig ud som en gave til Københavns beboere og besøgende, og museets tilgængelighed er derfor i højsædet. De nye bygninger ”Filmgloben” og det underjordiske ”Globens Samlinger” kan besøges døgnet rundt – ”Globens Samlinger” som en del af en døgnåben vandring mellem de grønne områder ved Rosenborg Slot, Botanisk Have og Statens Museum for Kunst.  De nye og eksisterende bygninger, som tilsammen udgør Statens Naturhistoriske Museum, forbindes af et enkelt stisystem, som løber rundt i hele områdets periferi. Stierne tager form af rødder, som udspringer fra de opstillede blomsterlignende lamper.  Museet skal give den besøgende en moderne totaloplevelse, hvor botanikkens, zoologiens og geologiens verden går hånd i hånd, og hvor såvel udviklingshistorien, nutidens forskning og fremtidens visioner folder sig ud. I både eksisterende og nye bygninger inddrages den besøgende i en varieret museumsoplevelse med fokus på, at den besøgende skal være aktiv og tage alle sanser i brug. Følger man museums-stien kommer man til den klassiske museumscafé, den højteknologiske ”Filmglobe”, den intime naturskole, de hyggelige picnic-områder, den åbne markedsplads, de elegante tematiske udstillinger, de spændende eksperimentarier og forskergården. Man bevæger sig ned i ”Globens Samlingers” forunderlige, underjordiske univers, og man bevæger sig op til fantastiske udkigsposter.  Særligt i nybyggeriet ”Filmgloben” og ”Globens Samlinger” er kontakten til forskernes daglige arbejde vægtet højt.  Det nye museum skal bane vejen for fremtidens bæredygtige byggeri, og alle nye tiltag i forslaget er derfor udtryk for integreret energidesign, hvor miljøvenlige, højteknologiske løsninger er indarbejdet fra starten af designfasen…”

“Be careful when you pull the plug! Recycle your electronic waste!”
The recycling bin is designed as a simple shape that suits all modern urban environments. The bin comes in black or white and is a locker system. User instructions on the bin says: You pulled the plug! Press the green button to open an available locker. Place your electronic waste as far back as possible andclose the locker door. If you fill up the locker please press the red button and the door will be locked! This is to protect the binfrom theft and/or tampering. Mobil phones and batteries should be placed in the holes next to this text. Thank you for recycling your electronic waste! The recycling bin is made of recycled polyethylene HD with a weather resistant construction and UV stabilizers. Handles and wheels make is easy to transport the bin from on place to another. The logo and buttons on the bin light up at night referring to electronic waste and giving the bin an almost futuristic appearance. The locker system with different sized lockers makes it possible to handle the electronic device with care. Throwing electronic waste in a normal waste container there is a risk of breaks and leaks. The locker system makes it possible to pack the e-waste rationally and makes it easy to overview the waste when emptying the bin. Further more the locks prohibit theft and tampering. When all buttons are red the bin is full! The wheels are removable and the bins are easy to stack on the waste disposal site. The bin has a modern look that appeals to many people. Touching the bin is like touching a Mac product – it’s smooth and gorgeous with straight simple lines, a nice surface, rounded corners, funky buttons and a shiny logo. You feel more special using the locker bin system than throwing stuff into a regular waste container. The bin itself refer to modern technology and electronic devices.

“Be careful when you pull the plug! Recycle your electronic waste!”
The primary logo is designed to be both modern and easy to read. The electronic device is thrown into a garbage bin. The angel wings and a recycle-glorie refer to the logo text: “Be careful when you pull the plug”. What happens when your electronic device is “dead”? The secondary logo – the wire turning into a cardiogram and a globe – underlines the slogan and explains the ecological importance of recycling e-waste. Together the primary and secondary logos can easily be used on recycling bins, merchandise and in TV-commercials.

Eva Harlou* designs a logo to represent E-waste recycling and a bin to collect it for proper disposal or recovery

In 2005 the U.S. generated over two million tons of electronic waste; 250,000 tons from New York City alone. That figure is projected to double in the decade to come. These obsolete or broken electronics are typically just dumped in with regular trash, though most of this E-waste contains toxic components that leech into the soil and poison the groundwater. Although our collective “green” conscience has certainly evolved, our infrastructure has not. We need a place to safely and easily deposit our E-waste: The 4th Bin.

In response to this clear need, and to coincide with the upcoming changes to New York City’s law’s regarding E-waste, Valiant Technology is calling for entries in an international competition. Your aim: to design a logo to represent E-waste recycling and a bin to collect it for proper disposal or recovery.

Circle House is an apartment building in the center of Aarhus, Denmark. The signature of the building is the facade with it’s pattern of circles. The facade is highly decorative and also has a practical function as protection towards the apartments behind. At night the light from the apartments gives the facade an even stronger appearance. The ground floor includes a café and restaurant.
